Miss Somerville, assistant teacher of Taupiri School, has been transferred to Hikurangi, and will commence her duties after the holidays. Miss G. Cussen, of Hamilton, who recently passed the Karitane examination in Dunedin, has been appointed to the child welfare branch in Christchurch.

GIFT AFTERNOON A gift afternoon was given by Mrs. M. Shuttleworth and Mrs. J. Halkett at the latter’s residence, Rotorua, on Thursday, In honour of Miss Clarice Smith, who is shortly to be married. Many good wishes with useful and pretty gifts were received by the guest of honour- The afternoon was spent with charming musical items and a guessing competition, which was won by Miss V. St. Clair.
