RETURNS TO DECEMBER SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT (Special to THE SU2s) WELLINGTON, Thursday. A small improvement in the net. earning's of the railways is shown oy the working account for the four weeks ended December 8. The total was £114,286. as against £113,446 in the corresponding period of last year. The gross revenue from all sources was £ 627.165, which is £10,422 more than last year, while expenses amounted to £512,879, an increase of £9,582. The gain has therefore been £ S4O. The earnings of the North Island railways were £354,220, an increase of £4,221. Working expenses amounted to £269,497, an increase of only £1,224, so that the net revenue is higher by £2,997. Against this there has been a decline in the working profits from the Sou+ii Island railways. The gross receipts were £222.508, an increase of £709. but the working expenses, £209.252! increased by £2,251. The profit was lower by £1,572. The net revenue from miscellaneous services was £16,307, or £ 586 less than last year. Following is a summary of the net revenue for the nine periods of the current financial year: North South Other
