DECISIVE MOMENT NEAR. BUT DEATH INTERVENED —GRAND DUKE BURIED
(Australian and N.Z. Press Association) PARIS, Wednesday.
The remains of the late Grand Duke Nicholas were to-day placed in a crypt in the Russian Church at Cannes. There were present a remnant of the former Russian Royal Family, nobles and refuges of all classes, many of them taxi-drivers or .waiters from Paris.
Eight former Russian generals acted as pall-bearers. Marshal Retain represented France. Shortly before his death Nicholas signed a message to the people of Russia, saying: “The decisive moment is approaching. Gather your forces with the Holy Cross in your hand. Resume progress along the road of greatness and glory marked out for you. Spare neither strength nor means in your country’s redemption.”
