Over 300 Instances Cause Inconvenience INVESTIGATION WANTED Over 300 instances of street name duplication in and around Auckland are still troubling electoral officers, mail room officials, and Harassed carriers and taxi-drivers. Haphazard methods for years past have resulted in an enormous jumble in the naming of streets. People most concerned havd' put down the glaring cases of street duplication to lack of co-operation among local bodies. Renumbering of streets is anoth< r similar problem which could be solved by a conference. Further, the repre(sentatives could meet periodically to i eview applications for new street names. A huge task faces such u committee of municipal representative-, but the duplication is not lessening while no active move is being made. The most confusing mixture «»f names is in King. King (Jeorge, King Edward, Kingston and Kingsley streets, parad- . drives and roads. There are no fewer than 17 of these similar street names. Richmond, as a title for a thoroughfare, has a representation of seven, ami the title. Eden, in spite of its lavish , use in the naming of several localities in Auckland, is included in the names for nine thoroughfares. Queen, fv rk. : Church, Albert, Beach. Domain, v rk< t, Elizabeth. Fred« . I Geo - Kitchener and Grey arc names whirl have been viewed all too favourably ! by local bodies. The tangle in names needs unravelling. The expense necessarx i to do the work thoroug. ’y would pale i in * comparison with the inconvenience that has been general for years past.
