CRASH INTO CAR

INTOXICATED DRIVER FINED ABUSED A POLICEMAN (From Ou.r Own Correspondent) TE KUITI, Tuesday. At the Te Kuiti Police Court, before Messrs. A. Allison and W. S. Cato, J.P.’s, yesterday, Leslie Duff, of Taumarunui, was charged with driving a car while intoxicated on January 5. He was also charged with driving a motor-car without a licence, and of using obscene language in a public place. Accused pleaded guilty to all charges. The police stated accused left Taumarunui with a companion and came to Te Kuiti, afterwards going on to Te Awamutu, where liquor was procured and taken back to Te Kuiti. Accused then drove roHind the' town and crashed into a stationary car. breaking one of the springs. Constable Annabell approached accused, who became abusive. The police considered the charge of drunkenness a serious one. Other charges were pending, which would be heard next court day. Accused said he had struck the car before he had had drink. He had been driving a car for seven years. On this occasion he had left his licence behind. On the main charge accused was fined £lO and his licence was suspended for three months, while on the other charges he was convicted and discharged. Time was allowed to pay the fine. An application by accused for the suppression of his name was refused.
