The hush fires have now spread to the vicinity of Lithgow. Late last night the town was ringed with flames. The whole mountain-side near the State mines and the powerhouse has been burned out.

Tjy„ working throughout the night, the employees managed to save the establishment.

Thousands more acres of grass-land and miles of fencing have been destroyed. It is feared that if the wind increases the result will be disastrous.

The fires are threatening other parts of the district.
