PARIS FRAUD SCANDAL
EIGHTEENTH ARREST GRAFT IN HIGH PLACES (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) LONDON, Saturday. A message from Faris says the 18th arrest in connection with the “Gazette du Franc” affair is that of Charles Bertrand, a former deputy. Pie is accused of complicity in Madame Hanau’s alleged share-pushing operations. It was alleged that the woman Hanau kept a notebook in which was a list of influential people, including senators, deputies and even two exPremiers, to whom she had advanced money, virtually bribes in return for their moral support of her enterprises. An examining magistrate questioned the woman. He received evasive answers. Finally madame refused to answer a direct question as to whether she kept an account of the sums paid out as bribes. The Public Prosecutor has intervened. He insists that the notebook has been found. AMAZING DISCLOSURES The Paris correspondent of the “Daily Mail” states that Camille Aymard, editor % of the newspaper “Liberte,” has made astonishing disclosures. Pie asserts that there were 61 secret accounts which Madame Hanau kept in a white notebook. These accounts show in detail the bribes she paid to prominent politicians to continue friendly to herself and her schemes. Aymard says each of these accounts, which were only identified by numbers, referred to some prominent 'personage. Account No. 24 concealed the name of an ex-deputy who at present is accusing all and sundry in connection with the affair. Aymard says the secrets of these accounts must be probed and all the names disclosed.
