TRAIN-WRECKERS’ WORK
SLEEPERS ON THE RAILS DRIVER’S LUCKY SAVE (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Received 9.5 S a.m.) MELBOURNE, To-day. Tx'ain wreckers made an attempt to wreck the Adelaide express between Bacchus Marsh and Ingliston yesterday afternoon. The driver, noticing an obstruction on the line, jammed on the emergency brakes and brought the train to a standstill a couple of feet from two sleepers which were placed across the rails. Owing to the derailment of another train, the express was 50 minutes behind schedule time. Had it not been for this, a heavily-loaded excursion train from Ballarat would have gone over the line first on a down-grade. The police are of opinion that it was not a boyish prank, but a deliberate attempt at train-wrecking.
