Fight For Diamonds Likely
Australian and N.Z. Press Association)
Reed. 11 a.m. CAPETOWN, Friday. THE situation iu the Xamaqualand diamond field is becoming- strained. The few thousand disatfected residents, who claim the right to participate in the wealth of the diamond fields have been augmented by hundreds from the Yaal River fields, including some desperadoes. Monday’s programme aims at boarding lorries after the demonstration at Port Nolloth and travelling sixty miles to the State diggings at Alexander Bay. It is regarded as impossible for the police to defend a 20-miles frontage, even if it is guarded by barbed wire. A conflict seems inevitable.
