ROTORUA NOTES
The boys of the Rotorua Scout troop, in charge of Scoutmaster T. C. Hawkins, are holding their annual camp at Maketu. They are to be joined later by the Tauranga Scouts. The boys are in good spirits and are looking forward to an enjoyable holiday. There was a cloud-burst in the vicinity of the town last Saturday afternoon. Rotorua itself escaped, but the cloud emptied itself to some purpose on the eastern side, near the abattoirs, with the result that motor-cars had considerable difficulty in getting through, the water on the road being up to the run-ning-boards. The main road for some 200 yards was much damaged, the surface and all loose material being washed away. The year 1928 closed with a rainfall of 72.1-5 inches, which is above the average of the five previous years. Some fifty cars left the camping site on Thursday morning, bound for their respective homes. There are about a hundred cars still occupying the camp. Six hundred members of the Presbyterian Bible Class, who have been camping at Hamilton, arrived in Rotorua by special train on Thursday and are camping on the Marine Parade.
