YE OLDE PIRATE SHIPPE POPULAR WITH DANCERS The novelty of the Pirate Shippe i Cabaret at Milford has been a big attraction to dancers during the holidays. Built as an authentic reproduction of one of the old pirate ships. and equipped in a thorough manner, the | ship is of great interest to dancers desiring a pleasant evening’s entertainment close to the beach. Two high-class dancing floors, one i the upper deck and the other on the | lower deck, the latter sprung on rubber, I afford ample space for a large number. ! The already popular Pirates Orchestra j plays the latest dance numbers. Another big carnival night is being j held at the Shippe this evening. THE PERILS OF THE YUKON While making scenes for the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer picture, “The Trail of ’98,” which will be shown in Auckland shortly, and starring Dolores Del Rio and Ralph Forbes, the company worked in an average wind of 50 miles an hour, with a blizzard every second day. and in a temperature which registered from 20 to 35 degree? below’ zero, with the constant menace of snow slides ever present. Early in production a terrific slide carried an entire, train, consisting of a locomotive and 15 trucks loaded with equipment, crashing down a mountain gorge. This catastrophe led to the systematic dyna* miting of drifts every time they threat* ened the company.
