JOHN BARRYMORE’S “TEMPEST”
CAMILLA HORN, LEADING LADY Camilla Horn, whose first big chance came to her when she supported Emil Jannings in “Faus.t” is now in America as leading lady for John Barrymore in his second United Artists’ picture, “Tempest,” coming to the Strand Theatre next Friday. Fraulein Horn, who is but 18 years old, was born in Frankfort-on-Main. Neither of her parents was connected in any way with the theatre. Camilla learned dancing, and while pursuing the art of terpsichore was spied by an executive of the U.F.A. Studio. She was asked to appear for a screen, test, and when director F. W. Murnau saw her he signed her to play Marguerite opposite Jannings’s Mephisto. Joseph M. Schenk was so impressed with Miss Horn’s performance that he signed her to a five-year contract with Feature Productions, Inc. The first picture she has made since arriving in America has been “Tempest.” “Tempest” is John Barrymore’s greatest picture, and is a tremendous drama of the Russian revolution, with Barrymore in the role of a Czarist officer hurled to the depths of poverty.
