WESTFIELD SALE STOCK IN GOOD DEMAND SHEEP AND BEEF FIRM There was an average yard ins o£ beef and sheep at Westfield yesterday, when the first stock sale since the holidays was held. Christmas values were slightly improved upon in the sheep section and lambs sold at late quotations. Beef values were again maintained, choice ox, lines realising up to 42s a 1001 b. There was also an average a arding of pigs which sold firmly. Calves demand at the commencement of the sale, but keen prices were not. maintained throughout. TRAWLER HUMPHREY DUE. —Sanford’s new trawler, Humphrey, which left Falmouth on October 25 for Auckland, is due here any time now. PASSENGERS FOR EAST.—To enable Chinese passengers to reach China in time for the Chinese New Year celebrations, the Australian-Oriental liner Changte will now leave Sydney for Manila and Hong-Kong on January 16 instead of January 19. PORT WELLINGTON DELAYED.— The C. and IX Line advises that owing to bad weather at Napier preventing the completion of the loading of the Port Wellington, she will not leave that port until to-day for New York and London. ROTORUA POSTPONED.—The local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company has been advised that the departure of the liner Rotorua from Wellington to Southampton and London has been postponed from 3 p.m. on Tuesday, January S, until*noon on Thursday, January 10. WAIRUNA ON SUNDAY.—From the Pacific Coast ports, via Papeete, the Union Company’s cargo steamer Wairuna is due at Auckland at 2 p.m. on Sunday, and, after discharge here, proceeds to Wellington,. KARTIGI FROM N E WCASTLE.—Advice - has been received by the Union Company that the steamer Kartigi, en route from Melbourne, was expected to leave Newcastle yesterday afternoon for Auckland. INDIAN LOAN IN LONDON LARGE SUM FOR RAILWAYS British Official Wireless RUGBY, Wednesday. Tlie underwriting was arranged today of a new loan for the Government of'lndia of £10.000,000 in 41 per cent. 1955-68 stock. The issue price will be 91 per cent. This issue constitutes the largest overseas loan for some time, and as the proceeds are largely for railway purposes it should be a help to. the iron and steel industries in Britain.
