OVER 10 FEET OF RAIN
WAIHI BREAKS ALL RECORDS JULY FALL TOTALS 32 INCHES (From Our Own Correspondent) WAIHI, To-day. In his report for the year just ended, the weather observer for Wailii, Mr. M. F. Haszard, says: “The year just closed has been a remarkable one from a meteorological point of view insomuch as live weather records have been broken in Wailii during the 12 months. “Starting with January, this was the driest month ever recorded in Waihi. July was wettest ever recorded, the rainfall of 32.52 in being 12in greater than the previous record established in January, 1907. “Again in December a record for this month of 14.03 in has been established and the total fall for the year, 127.34 in, is just Sin greater than the previous record of 1907. “Both November and December have been comparatively calm months, the wind mileage being only about half that usually recorded for these months.”
HEAVIER THAN USUAL RAINFALL IN HAMILTON (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, Thursday. The raiftfall in Hamilton during 1928 was heavier than usual. The total amount of rain for the year was 54.79 in, the average fall for the district over a period of years having been 50in. The lightest fall outside January, when the drought existed, was August (2.52 in) and the heaviest, May (9.23 in). Following on the dry spell this time last year the copious rainfall has made the present season an excellent one for pastures and crops. DECEMBER FIGURES During last month rain fell on 12 days in December, the maximum fall being on the 28th when I.6in was recorded. The total fall for the month was 4.88 in.
CAMBRIDGE BEATS AUCKLAND FOR SUNSHINE (From Our Own Correspondent) CAMBRIDGE, To-day. The December rainfall in Cambridge totalled 4.37 in. Rain fell on 1-4 days, the maximum fall being 1.44 in. oil the 28th. The total fall for the year 1928 was 53.99 in., rain falling on 144 days. The total amount of bright sunshine for December was 220 hours 24 minutes, which compares favourably with Auckland's record of 199 hours 45 minutes for the same period. The sunshine record for Cambridge has only been available for a few months —since the erection of the newclimatic station —and each month shows that Cambridge enjoj's considerably more sunshine than Auckland. Cambridge also has much less wind than the Queen City.
