MORIORI RELICS GIVEN TO MUSEUM
ONE REMAINING TRIBESMAN A number of interesting relics of the Morioris have been presented to the Auckland Museum, where they will take a prominent place among the exhibits in the section devoted to preMaori times. They include Moriori adzes, paddle, club, and tooth pendant, the gifts of Mr. W. Barnham, of Rotorua. The exhibits are from the Chatham Islands, and are typical implements of the now almost extinct race. Each is in an excellent state of preservation. Their arrival recalls the fact that there is now only one living representative of the Moriori race. Ho is Mr Tommy Solomon, who resides at Awenga. in the Chathams. He is married to a Maori woman. The visit of the Maoris to the Chathams in 1829 accounts mainly !«»*.* iji - i disappearance of the ancient tribe.
