AUCKLAND YACHT ASHORE

NIOBE’S CABLE SNAPS GROUNDED NEAR WHITIANGA (Special to THE SUN) WHITIANGA. Sunday. After breaking her anchor cable and drifting out of Whitianga Harbour on the tide the keel yacht Niobe went ashore on Buffalo Beach. The vessel, which is owned by Mr. Grear, of Ponsonby, is in the charge of Mr. Grear’s son, Mr. Hardie, of Ponsonby, and Mr. Jackson, of Mount Albert.

The yacht had been moored in a seemingly safe position out of the full pull of the tide, but the cable chafed through and she drifted off. She grounded at high-water mark and. although some difficulty may be experienced in getting her off. she is not greatly damaged.
