CRICKET AND HORSES
MR. AND MRS. LOWRY’S VISIT TO AUSTRALIA TEST RESULTS NOT UNEXPECTED After a holiday visit to Australia, Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Lowry, of Hawke’s Bay, returned to Auckland by the Maunganui from Sydney this morning. “We had wonderful weather, saw some fine cricket, and the New Zealand horses are still winning in Sydney, some of them at long odds.” said Mr. Lowry, in summarising his visit. “The Australians might not have expected to be beaten as badly as they were in the first two tests,” he remarked, “but they knew that their team was not as strong as it has been. Particularly was it weaker in the bowling strength. They were, however, fairly optimistic about the prospects in the third Test, which is at present being played.” Mr. and Mrs. Lowry spent some time with their ‘daughter, Mrs. Chapman, and Chapman, a member of the English team, and while they were there Chapman and another member of the team joined them, and went on a kangaroo hunt in Queensland. - Mr. and Mrs. Chapman are visiting New Zealand in March, and will indulge in some troutfishing and hunting.
