LAD OF 14 CHARGED WITH KILLING BROTHER
ARRESTED AT PICNIC AFTER WANDERING FROM HIS HOME (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) Reed. 9 a.m. MELBOURNE, To-day. Philip Pope, who disappeared after his brother was shot dead on Monday, was found by the police at a picnic ground, where he had just participated in a race. He made a statement concerning his wanderings since his disappearance. He was later charged with having murdered his brother. While his mother was in the city on Monday buying toys for Christmas, Jack Pope, aged 10, was shot dead in his parents’ home at Moorabbin. Shortly after the tragedy, an elder brother, Philip, aged 14, left the house. The fatal weapon was a shotgun. One barrel was discharged. Five other young children who were in the house were unable to say how the shooting occurred. They only knew that Philip had gone, saying he would tell his mother and the police of the shooting. The father was away at work. The mother returned to find Jack lying in the passage. The gun had been replaced on the nail on which it hung in the father’s room.
