THE REV. DR. J. J. NORTH

(PRINCIPAL N.Z. BAPTIST COLLEGE) piHRISTMAS is for Christian people and for people who do not claim that name. It is a festival of joy. However dark the day, however hard the time, every face is shone on and every board is laden with good cheer. This peace of happy optimism is not based on a human plot, hut on a Divine happening. The birthday of Jesus is the Christian day of the year. The unparalleled majesty of Jesus is reflected in the general joy. It should escape nobody’s notice. That joy has its root in the goodness of God and in His sacrifice. What Saint Paul called the grace of the Lord Jesus prompts the festival. The Baptist people join in the general joy and believe, in common with other Christians, that the joy should be spre.-fl over the whole year. They believe, and they ask others to believe that Christ is able to do this for our race.
