AWAPUNI WIND-UPS
GALLOPS ON THE PLOUGH RIDING ENGAGEMENTS Press Association PALMERSTON N., To-day. Although it was expected that many candidates would have their windingup gallop this morning, the work at Awapuni did not attain the interest expected. The grass tracks promise to be hard on the day. Practically all gallops were carried out on the plough to-day. Teremoana had Blimp as a companion over seven furlongs, run in 1.42. The latter, who does not claim an engagement until Wednesday, was under a hard pull. Callanmore jumped oft' at the fourfurlong post to run home in 52. and Glena Bay and Clarinda left seven behind in 1.37, after doing the first furlong in 15. Clarinda appeared to be going the better at the finish. Atareria was clear of Disrank at the end of half a mile, no time being taken. Keddar, who had approximately a stone the best of the weights, cleared away from Novar at the end of a mile in 1.45 1-5. Easy for the Favourite First Sight and Rowley, following a ragged jump-out, ran a mile in 1.47 3-5, the first half in 54. and the last seven in 1.34. First Sight was hard held throughout, and had the measure of his companion. Hunting Call jumped oft better than Belcaire, but the latter gathered up his partner in the run home, to negotiate the four furlongs in 53 3-5. Singleton was going better than Cohesion at the end of six in 1.20, the last five in 1.6 2-5. Hymestrason had an advantage over Toawai at the end of seven i* 1.33 2-5, the Southerner, however, moving attractively. Imperial Spark (light-weight up) left five behind in 1.5 4-5. Noteworthy recorded a very fair effort in running half a mile in 53 4-5.. Jeannette went out with a companion to run half a mile, the last three being left behind in 39. Silver Coot ran the first two of five furlongs in 25 1-5, and completed the full journey in I.s—an attractive effort. Kick-Off appeared lame in front at the conclusion of an easy task on the plough, although he walked away from the stables better. Commendation made a reappearance in the active ranks this morning, when he did trotting and cantering on the No. 1 grass. Ruffles, Glena Bay and Black Maire arrived on Saturday, the trio looking well, although the first-named is a trifle burly. R. S. Bagby will pilot First Sight, Veronese and Kilburn. R. G. Stratton has been engaged for Novar, Noteworthy, Silver Coot, Hot Springs and Roburant. K. Voitre rides Lady Alophen, Richfield, Discourse, Callanmore, Duellona and Lin Arlington.
