RAILWAY HANDICAP TRIALS

A large number'of sprinters claiming an engagement in the Railway Handicap were seen out. Probably looking better than when lie won the Stewards’ Handicap at Riccarton last month, Silvermine ran up to his looks by easily accounting for Bright Glow at the end of live furlongs, covering the distance in 1.4 3-5. The latter was not doing her best, and in fact both could have improved considerably. Jolie Money, with Archeno as a companion, finished in 1.6 for five furlongs, ‘the last four in 51 3-5, and they finished together, neither being ridden out. Looking bright and well, Cimabue pleased a bit more than Staghunter when they covered four furlongs in the smart time of 49 3-5, slipping over the last three in 37 4-5. It was a smart bit of work, particularly on the part of Cimabue. Lysander (on the inside) and Awarere were sent five furlongs, and making the pace merry all the way (they ran the first two in 24 3-5), the for-

mer displayed plenty of dash to finish a neck in front, with Awarere not doing his best, in 1.3 2-5. It really looks as if Lysander is really coming back.

The Hawk was doing better than White Fang over five furlongs in 1.6, the first two occupying 25 4-5. Crown Area and Moorgas hopped off from the six, being picked up at the five by Court Jester, and they finished in a heap in 1.22, the first three taking 41 2-5. Aussie gave Just Nell several lengths’ start from the five-furlong barrier and caught her at the end of the first furlong. Aussie, cut out his first two in 24 2-5, and completed the journey in front in J.. 3, his companion’s time being 1.5. Just before breakfast Consent (R. Marsh) registered a brilliant gallop over six furlongs He ran the first in 13 1-5, and then, the pace was clapped on, the twp taking 26 and the three 38 2-5, to finish in 1.17 1-5. Consent did it really well, and is sure to come in for support as a result.
