“A WEEK WASTED”
HOW UNEMPLOYED'S £2,000 WILL BE USED “If he had done that a week ago, we could have given the men a week’s work before Christmas. This was the comemnt of the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, this morning, on the fact that the Prime Minister had made his £2,000 for the unemployed a straight-out grant, instead of a subsidy. “As it is,” he continued, “we are putting 40 or 50 men on Grey Lynn, Point Chevalier, and perhaps Epsom Domain on Monday. Possibly we will be able to fi li work for more men immediately after Christmas,”
