ADDITION TO POLICE STATION EXTRA STOREY TO BE BUILT A third storey is to be built on to the Central Police Station at Auckland. Tenders have been called by the Public Works Department and work will be started as soon as the successful tenderer, has been chosen. The business of the Auckland Police District and tlxe consequential increase in staff has been verymarked during tho past few years, and officers and men have had to work in very cramped quarters. The extra storey will be built on to the main police building facing O’Rorke Street and Princes Street. It is proposed to transfer the kitchen, dining-room and sleeping quarters and other offices to the new storey, thus making more accommodation for the senior officers and the indoor staff. It will also provide more cell room. The proposed additions to the building have been contemplated for some years, and a sum of money was annually placed on the Estimates for that purpose. A definite move has now been made to increase the Police Station building.
