JEWELS WORTH £60,000 LOST iN CAR EXPLOSION
Times Cable. Reed. Noon. LONDON, Thurs. With her best jewels, worth about £60,000, including a diamond tiara and three perfect strings of pearls. Lady Glanely left Newmarket in a motor-car to join her husband, who is a racehorse-owner, at Bath. The car skidded at Royston, Hertfordshire, in an attempt to avoid a cyclist, and overturned, catching fire. Lady Glanely, the chauffeur, and her maid were rescued with difficulty, the jewels remaining in the car. The petrol exploded. Some scattered jewels were recovered, otherwise they are almost a total loss The cyclist has a fractured Bkull and leg. He Is in a critical condition. Lady Glanely’s husband is the first Baron Glanely. She Is a daughter of the late Mr. Thomas Williams, the Cardiff brewer.
