DESPONDENT YOUNG MAN CAUGHT ON BRIDGE PARAPET Caught by the leg when attempting to scramble over the parapet of Grafton Bridge, Albert Lloyd Addison appeared at the Police Court this morning on a charge of attempted suicide. Addison, a timber-worker aged 22, pleaded guilty. According to Sub-Inspector McCarthy, Addison, who had been out of work for a year, had been seen climbing the Grafton Bridge parapet at 9 o’clock this morning. An elderly man, who was passing, caught him by the leg and held him until two men came to the rescuer’s assistance. Addison was then handed over the Constable Mac Lean. It was explained that the young man was despondent over his failure to get work. Ele had been in hospital suffering from sleeping sickness. Addison was remanded for a week for medical observation.
