A Restless Night

Some years ago I was in charge of a caravan. Arriving at Sunderland I "parked” in the entrance drive to the cemetery ot' the parish church. The van was placed on an asphalt drive. One night I awoke, in inky darkness. Thunder roared. I had an uneasy sense of something unusual happening. The caravan was moving and suddenly I was pitched off my bunk. Crockery and cooking utensils were rolling about the floor. To add to the confusion I found that I could not stand on account of the angle of the floor. Nor could I get out for the door was jammed. As I groped about for matches the caravan gave a lurch, and, accompanied by the sound of breaking timber, settled into a more natural position. I was now able to open the door and stepping outside I found that the steps were not there and I fell into several feet of water. The lightning showed me what had happened.
