TAKAPUNA BOROUGH
NEW COUNCIL LIKELY It can be definitely stated that the next council to control the destinies of the Borough of Takapuna will consist almost wholly of new members. The Mayor, Mr. J. W. Williamson, announces that his health will not permit of a further two years of office, and at the expiration of his term next May he will retire. Mr. J. E. Close will leave Auckland for England and the Continent next Friday, and he will be followed in February by Mr. M. L. Wilkins. Neither intends to nominate again. Definite decisions to vacate office when the term of office expires are announced by Messrs. G. C, Malcolm, J. W. Hayden and A. M. Seaman, and it is unlikely that Mr. F. Hawes will again be an aspirant for office. This leaves only three members, Messrs. A. M. Gould, J. Guiniven and J. Davis, who have not yet given an indication as to their future intentions. On Wednesday evening the Mayor and councillors entertained Mr. Close at a farewell function, and many complimentary references were made to his go*>d work as chairman of the Works Committee.
