BOXING AT OPOTIKI
AUCKLANDERS GIVE GOOD DISPLAYS WIN FOR THOMPSON (From Our Own Correspondent) OPOTIKI. To-day. The 13th tournament of the Opotiki Boxing Association, held last evening, proved a great success. The visit of two Auckland boxers, Thompson and Shadbolt, proved a popular attraction, both visitors giving splendid displays. The star bout was a six-round middle-weight bout between R. Parkinson, list 41b (Opotiki) and A. Shadbolt, lOst 101 b (Auckland), and proved one of the best lights ever staged in Opotiki, the crowd being thrilled from start to finish. The local boy’s advantage in weight proved the deciding factor but Shadbolt proved to i:e an extremely clever boxer, keeping Parkinson busy throughout. Parkinson secured the decision. Both boxers were loudly applauded for their excellent display. Other bouts resulted:
P. Parkinson, Sst 51b (Opotiki), beat J. Apanui, Sst 91b (Opotiki); Goldsmith, lOst 71b (Opotiki) drew with Matchitt, lOst 111 b (Otara); G. Savage, lOst 101 b (Edgecumbe) beat J. Allison, lost 51b (Otara); J. Kingdom, Sst CWaimana) lost to 13. Miller, Sst 31bT. Parkinson, lost 111 b (Opotiki), lost to R. Thompson, lOst 101 b (Auckland). The visitor proved too strong the referee stopping the light in the third round. E. Day, Sst 91b (Opob, eat \. Luttrill, 9st 41b (Opotik1); S. Collier ,10st (Kutarere) lost to \V. McDonald, list 31b (Opotiki)G. Lysaght, Sst 41b (Opotiki) lost to A. Ravage, lOst 41b (Edgecumbe).
