He was electrocuted.—P.A. Blamed Festive Season Jeremiah Purcell, aged 25, who admitted being drunk in charge of a Gas Company lorry, was fined £ls at Christchurch to-day. Lucky Thirteen The Northern Building Society held an appropriation meeting last evening. Ten groups were represented and five sales by tender took place. By a peculiar coincidence the winning number in the appropriation by ballot was number 13 in the 13th group. Number 13 was the cluster number representing four shares. * * * Testing Stock Remedies That the time had come when the Agricultural Department should test out all patent stock mediums before allowing them to be placed on the market, was the opinion expressed at yesterday’s meeting of the Dairy Farmers’ Union, which decided to send a deputation to the Minister when Parliament was next in session to bring this before his notice. It was considered that even if the mediums proved 25 per cent, effective the farmers would know where they stood.—P.A. Big Garage Burned Messrs. Bignell and Holmes’s garage at Tokomaru Bay, a large modern building, was destroyed by fire this •norning as a result of a mishap during vulcanising operations. All cars in the garage were saved, but all the material and plant was destroyed. A billiards saloon and a shop occupied by Mr. Wi Potae, and the Native Trust Office adjoining, were also destroyed.— P.A. Just Out of Gaol “Having just come out of gaol she was a little exuberant,” said SubInspector McCarthy of Mary Smith, who pleaded guilty at the Police Court this morning to using obscene language. The sub-inspector said that the language was used late at night after Smith, who was 54 years of age, had had a few drinks. The woman had served a long sentence. “We will give her a chance then,” remarked Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., imposing a fine of £l. * * * Danish Films Screened in Auckland The Strand Theatre was full this morning when a series of cinematograph films from the Danish scientific research ship Dana were screened. These films were made for the Danish Government to illustrate the industries of Denmark and were shown this morning at the request of Dr. Johannes Schmidt, leader of the scientific expeditioif. The pictures shown treated Denmark from the historical, scenic, agricultural and industrial points of view, tracing Denmark from the time of Canute the Great up to the present day. The films were shown under the patronage of the Hon. J B. Donald, on behalf of the Cabinet, and the presidents of the Chamber of Commerce and the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association.
