FATHER AND SON’S CLIMB MISTAKE FOUND ON MAP Pres* Association HAAST, Wednesday. Mr. Samuel Turner, of Wellington, accompanied by his son, Mr. Cyril Turner. of Canterbury College, recently climbed *the peak in the _ vicinity of Mount Hooker and made the first exploration and ascent of Mount Hooker. The aneroid measurements have yet to bo checked, but they indicate that the peak is about I.oooft. above tl}© height given in the maps. Five days were occupied in reaching the base from Maiarora. Lake Wanaka. Mount Hooker is the highest and hitherto unclimbed and unexplored peak in the Haast district of the Southern Alps.
