MISS F. J. W. HODGES The death is reported of Miss F. J. W. Hodges, principal of the Palmerston North Girls’ High School.—P.A. MR. F. W. PREECE Advice has been received at Palmerston North that Mr. F. W. Preece. president of the Associated Booksellers of Australia and New Zealand, died at Adelaide on Saturday.—P.A. MRS. M. L. HEMMING The death of Mrs. Maria Louisa Hemming occurred at the residence of her daughter. Mrs. A. E. Grant, in Donald Street, *Whangarei, to-day, at the age of 79 years. Mrs. Hemming was born at Worcester, England, and with her husband and young family came to New Zealand in 1902. Her husband died about 19 years ago, and for some time past she had been living with her daughter in Whangarei CAPTAIN G. THOMSON Captain George Thomson died at Port Chalmers yesterday, at the age of 75. Deceased went to sea in the days of sailing ships, and was engaged in intercolonial trade between New Zealand and Australia. He joined the Otago Harbour Board as tugmaster, became chief pilot, and Jater harbourmaster. He retired six years ago. He is survived by his wife, three sons, and two daughters.
