AUSTRALIA’S POPULATION SHOWS BIG INCREASE
Reed. 10.39 a.m. SYDNEY, To-day. The Commonwealth Statistician estimates that the population of the Commonwealth at the end of September was 6,310,453, being 111,463 more than a year ago. Immigration accounted for 34,975. New South Wales was responsible for nearly half the increase, with a total of 51,973. This State’s population is now nearly 2,500,000.
