SLAIN WHILE ASLEEP
WEST AUSTRALIAN CRIME MAN SENT FOR TRIAL Reed. noon. PERTH, To-day. An inquest was held into the death of William O’Brien, who was shot while asleep at a hostel in Kondinin. Walter Jerrnyn, aged 50, his partner, was committed for trial on a charge of wilful murder. Evidence was given by a housemaid. She saw Mrs. Jerrnyn remove two cartridges from Jermyn’s pocket, similar to those in Court. She also heard the two men quarrelling on the night of the tragedy. Jerrnyn, in a statement to the police, said that on numerous occasions he had found O’Brien and Mrs. Jerrnyn in compromising circumstances.
Patrick O’Brien, aged 32, was shot dead while in his bed at Mon Repos Hostel, Kondenin, on December 5. O’Brien’s partner in a motor engineering works was arrested on a charge of drunkenness, pending inquiries. A gun with one cartridge exploded was found in a pantry-
