MORE POLICE SOUGHT

EDEN BUSINESSMEN MOVE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE MEETS Mr. J. S. Freer, secretary to the Eden Chamber of Commerce, has approached the Police Department with the suggestion that extra police protection should be provided in ihe Eden district. Ho reported this when the chamber met last evening, and said that he had ! been told that there was greater supervision than was evident to a casual observer. Official advice would come from the Commissioner of Police. Several large city firms have been approached regarding the provision of trophies for a tradesmen’s window display competition. Promises of donations have been made and the competition will probably take place at Easter. The Mount Eden Borough Council wrote stating that it would supply particulars of its view on the suggestion to link the Mount Eden, Edendale and Dominion Road tram termini with a trackless tram service. The action of the secretary in sending the chamber’s congratulations to its patron, the Hon. A. J. Stall worthy, upon his appointment as Minister of Health, was approved. Immediate attention is to be given by the Post and Telegraph Department to the proposal that telephone boxes should be erected in Valley Road, and in front of the Dominion Road Post Office.
