NEW REGENT

SCHISTL’S WONDERETTES TO-NIGHT This evening Schistl’s Wonderettes will commence their Auckland season at the New Regent Theatre. These marvellous marionettes are one of the finest vaudeville turns ever presented in New Zealand and their appearance will be both instructive and amusing. Two big pictorial attractions will also be presented this evening, including Thomas Meighan’s great dramatic picture, “The Mating Call.”

Home from the wai\ back on his Florida farm, Leslie Hatton finds that his war-bride, Rose Henderson, has annulled their marriage and married Lon Henderson, a rich townsman. Deeply hurt, Hatton finds solace in building up his run-down farm. Rose returns from Europe, disillusioned, her marriage a failure due to Henderson’s infidelity. She tries to reopen her affair with Hatton, but he spurns her. This incident earns for Hatton the enmity of Henderson, who is head of a local chapter of a secret order. Lonesome on his farxn, Hatton decides to find himself a wife who can help him. At Ellis Island he induces a Russian immigrant gii'l to marry him in exchange for a home in the United States. In spite of their strange relationship, he and the girl grow to like each other. The second big feature is “Kit Carson,” a fine Western biographical drama, in which the leading role is taken by Fred Thomson. On Thursday next the New Regent will present an outstanding pictorial programme, showing both “The Street Of Sin,” starring Emil Jannings, and “Varsity,” starring Charles Rogers.
