BUCHANAN AWARDS

PRESENTED AT ONEHUNGA SCHOOL MANY PEOPLE ATTEND This afternoon at the Onehunga Public. School, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Buchanan, of Quadrant Road, Onehunga, presented the annual Buchanan Prize to Alfred Stratfield and Avis Firth. The prizes consisted of two cheques for £6 each, being the interest accruing from a capital sum invested with the Public Trustee in perpetuity and is presented to the boy and girl attending the Onehunga and the To Papapa Schools who displays the greatest capacity for overcoming obstacles, and who in school wark, apart from its quality, has shown the greatest amount of determination, integrity and capacity for leadership. The Mayor of Onehunga, Mr. W. C. Coldicutt, presented a large number of sixth standard certificates. The Speight Cup was presented by Mrs. C. J. Schnauer to the team which had beaten the Te Papapa School at football, and Mr. W. Hayward, chairman of the school committee, presented good-attendance certificates. Many people were present and musical items were given. Bouquets were given to Mesdames W. e. ColdiCLitt, R. Buchanan and A. Trayes.
