YACHTSMAN’S FAREWELL

GOOD WISHES FOR MR. A. BURT LEAVING FOR DUNEDIN On Saturday evening about 100 of the employees of A. and T. Burt, Ltd., met to say farewell to Mr. Alexander Burt, the well-known Auckland yachtsmen, who is leaving shortly for Dunedin to take up the position of managing director of the company. Mr. J. H. Johnson, the company’s general manager, was in the chair. Mr. M. Allan, who has worked with Mr. Burt for the last 24 years, presented him with an illuminated address and spoke of the regard in which Mr. Burt was held by the employees in Auckland. Mr. C. S. Allan, who will replace • Mr. Burt as branch manager for. the c o m p a n y, also spoke, regretting w Mr. Burt’s departure. Messrs. Morrow, Laws, White. Fowler and Orrell spoke on behalf of the various departments of the company. In reply, Mr. Burt said how sorry he was to leave Auckland. He spoke of the splendid men who had served their apprenticeship with the company, many of whom now occupied high positions in engineering circles throughout the world, and referred to the large number of outstanding contracts that had been successfully carried out by the company. Later in the evening Messrs. H. Buckland, W. Anderson and F. Hayworth, representing the employees, wished Mr., Burt good luck in his new work.
