“AT MATH’S DOOR”
MAUNGATAWHIRI ASSAULT YOUNG MAN REMANDED ‘■Although out of clanger now, she has been at death’s door,” said ChiefDetective Hammond of Lily Keith this morning. Mrs. Keith is said to have been the victim of a brutal assault at Maungatawhiri on November 17, but owing to her injuries the police have been unable to proceed with the case. This morning, in the Police Court, Honald Sharpe, a farm labourer, aged' 18, was charged with the assault, and a remand was granted until January 10. Mr. Potheringham, who appeared for Sharpe, asked for bail, and mentioned that his client was to be medically examined at the gaol. Chief-Detective Hammond objected to the granting of bail for such a long remand, in view of the seriousness of the case. When the remand was granted, Mr. P. K. Hunt, S.M., remarked that counsel could renew his application for bail as soon as he had made his arrangements for the examination.
