WIND LIFTS ROOFS OFF

BAD STORM IN N.S.W. A HOSPITAL FLOODED (United r.A. — By Telegraph — Copyright) Kecd. 9.20 a.m. SYDNEY, To-day. A message from Maitland states that a severe cyclonic storm caused serious damage. Many houses were unroofed by the force of the wind. One roof was lifted into the air and landed on top of a two-storey building. A hospital was unroofed, and soon there was a foot of water in the rooms. Many other business places were severely damaged. All traffic was brought to a standstill, and public utilities were interrupted. There was a heavy thunderstorm on Saturday evening over Sydney, and for several hours the lightning was particularly vivid. Several reports are current that buildings were striek, but so far they have not been authenticated. The rain was torrential at times, but it is welcomed on all sides, as the long dry spell has parched the countryside.
