BANK CLERK DIES
BLOOD GIVEN BY MAN WHO SHOT HIM THE WHANGAREI ACCIDENT ( ‘Special to THE SUN) WHANGAREI, Sunday. Although the fellow-employee. Mr. W. G. Grove, gave of his blood in an effort to save the life of Mr. H. S. Kedgley, whom he accidentally shot, his sacrifice was fruitless, and Mr. Kedgley died early this morning. Mr. Kedgley, who was accidentally shot by Mr. Groves while bank officers were playing in a room at the Bank of New South Wales on Friday, had been in a critical state since his admission to hospital. Yesterday morning blood-transfusion was decided upon, and Mr. Groves was selected from many volunteers, including all the staffs of the local banks. The transfusion was completed satisfactorily, and Mr. Kedgley was able to speak to his parents, but he got worse and died at two o’clock this morning. Formal evidence was given at the opening of an inquest this afternoon, which was then adjourned. “A PURE ACCIDENT” OFFICIALS ALL CLOSE FRIENDS (From Our Oven Correspondent) WHANGAREI. To-day. The inquest was resumed to-day by Mr. J. H. Euxford. S.M., who returned a verdict that death was due to shock, following peritonitis, directly caused by a revolver-bullet, fired by W. Groves. Evidence was given as to how the young men were playing in the bank when the accident occurred, as previously reported, and it was stated that tho three young men were close friends. The coroner, in giving his verdict, said it was a pure accident, which had the most tragic results.
