IN WONDERLAND

Hospital Children’s Delight HART BROTHERS’ TREAT Transported to wonderland, the faces of 40 little patients of the Princess Mary Ward of the Auckland Hospital lighted up at the Christmas treat provided for them by Hart Brothers. Some of them could not walk, arms and legs being in splints and plaster. They were taken in motor-cars lent by the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary Depot Committee from the hospital to the toy store. Here Father Christmas was the host at a big party at which all kinds of delicious “fizzy” drinks and ico cream and sweets were served. The party then made a tour of toyland, watching with wide eyes the wonders of mechanical toys. Santa Claus turned a listening ear to each of the patients and when they were about to go presented each with a Christmas stocking containing toys and sweets, and also with a balloon and a toy walking stick. The arrangements for the treat were made by Mrs. A. Wakeman, convener of the Hospital Auxiliary Depot Committee, and by Mr. H. Hart. The firm’s generosity also extended to the 40 children who are “cot eases,” unable to leave the hospital. A large case of toys was sent up for them. Two more cases of toys were provided by Hart Bros, for the auxiliary depot for the benefit of the childreft or poor patients in the Auckland Hospital.
