THAMES COUNTY NOTES
At the monthly meeting of the Thames County Council yesterday, a letter was received from Mr. Handley's solicitor notifying the council that if the toad adjacent to his property, Hikutaia, was closed, he would ask for a Supreme Court injunction restraining the council from its contemplated action. Mr. O. G. Thornton, of the Public Works Department, notified the council that the Highways Board was prepared to pay local bodies authorised quota monthly if desired. The council considered this innovation a decided improvement, and decided in future to render a monthly statement to the board. It was decided to erect bathing sheds and conveniences at Tapu (Thames Coast), and the engineer was authorised to proceed with the work. The Highways Board is to be asked to gazette the Matatoki Road as a secondary highway. There was £I,OOO to be spent on the road by the council, and if it were made a highway the subsidy would be £2 to £l. The chairman stated that the Highways Board had supported the motion on its recent visit. .
