FIRE AT PAPATOETOE

WOODEN HOUSE DESTROYED FIREMAN OVERCOME BY SMOKE (From Our Own Correspondent) PAPATOETOE, To-day. A four-roomed wooden house owned by Mr. T. Vallance, Waiuku, and occupied by Mr. A. J. Feild, in Pah Road, Papatoetoe, was destroyed by fire at 8.45 this morning. Smoke was first noticed issuing from the wash-house, and within a few minutes of the alarm being given from the post office the Papatoetoe Fire Brigade was in attendance, but could not save the building. A high wind was blowing and the brigade, -which is equipped with only first-aid fire-fighting equipment managed to save a shed stocked with fodder situated close to the burning building. Fireman Thompson while fighting the flames was overcome with smoke and received medical attention. The furniture was insured for £IOO in the London, Lancashire and Globe Insurance Company.
