BAND OF HOPE RALLY
SOCIAL AT AVONDALE A social rally of the Avondale Band of Hope was held in the Avondale Town Hall last evening. Over £“0 children and parents attended, and the Rev. C. B. Jordan presided. A guard of honour consisting of the Avondale Boy Scout pipers and 27> New Lynn Boy Scouts attended the president on the platform, and also phe Rev. F. A. Thompson, the Rev. Knowles Kempton, the Rev. Alfred Drake, the Rev. M. Sutherland. A programme of music and recitations was given by the children and parents, and addresses were given by the Reb. C. B. Jordan, the Rev. Alfred Drake, the Rev. Knowles Kempton and the Rev. M. Sutherland. The Rev. F. A. Thompson proposed a vote of thanks to the performers. A telegram of greeting from the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, the new Minister of Health, was read, and a vote of honour, proposed by the Rev. Knowles Kempton, was carried with cheers. A vote of condolence in the death of her husband was given Mrs. Lee-Cowie. The programme was as follows: Hymn, 10 girls; recitation, Mrs. Coutanche; trio, Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Hewitt and Mr. W. Hewitt; song, Miss C. T. Bisset; violin solo. Master L. Clements; songs, Waterview Methodist children; pipers’ selections, Avondale Boy Scouts; violin solo, R. Graves; song. D. Brown: pianoforte solo, T. Wilding; song, Miss F. Linfoot: dialogue, Misses M. and G. Goodman; recitation, C. Guiness; violin solo. Miss P. Wilson; welcome song, seven girls: recitation, Miss T. Fearon; song, Miss R. Thomas: piano and violin duet. Miss D. and Master L. Clements; monologue, Miss B. Porritt; song, Mr. D. Duncan: recitation. Miss J. Haddon; song. Miss D. Shephard; recitation, Mr A. Hastie
