AUCKLAND HARBOUR BRIDGE
-Now that the Government has so far recognised the importance of this project as to grant £SOO for the survey testing of the site, there now ap~ *■<■> be some reasonable probability of the bridge materialising. Several engineers have already mad© suggestions as to site, design and cost, but no finality in any single particular has yet been reached. Other engineers have considered the subject, but have not made their views public. Besides these there are still others with extensive experience of work of this class, who have not yet looked into the question, but who would probably do so were adequate inducement offered. The fair and proper course, therefore, that should be adopted would appear to be for the promotors to call Tor coro*petitive proposals on the basis of £IOO for the most suitable outline and £I,OOO for a general set of plans and specifications. In this manner the most suitable proposals would probably be obtained and at an insignificant cost as compared to the estimated .total cost. If and when such invitations for proposals are issued, it should be stated to what extent the approval of the Harbour Board to the site had been obtained, and whether railway and tram tracks would have to be provided on the bridge. OUTLOOK.
