GOD SAVE THE KING

Sir. —- Your first correspondent complained of the omission of the National Anthem at the commencement of a local picture programme, but I am moved to protest at my experience in a theatre last week. Audiences are sometimes overanxious to move off when the lights go up, but on this occasion it was noticeable that, with the King’s illness in mind, everyone stood and waited for the anthem, which was not played! Even the possible explanation that it was played earlier in the evening, before my arrival, does not, to my mind, make up for the omission of “God Save the King” at the end of the programme. LOYALTY.
