NEARLY HAD CHRISTMAS IN GAOL “An impudent act, and one bordering on qualifying you for a month’s sojourn in Mount Eden gaol.” said Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., ajt the Otahuhu Police Court yesterdaj*, to George Rutherford, who was charged with converting to his own use a motor-cycle valued at £ 50, the property of Alick McLuckv. Defendant stated that lie borrowed the cycle to go to his home in Onehunga, -without the knowledge of the owner, who was employed on the same farm at Papatoetoe. When about to return he was unable to start the cycle. In imposing a fine of £lO, and ordering the payment of eo§ts amounting to £1 ss, the magistrate remarked that the fact of the two part# s being acquainted saved the accused spending Christmas in Mount Eden.
