PRESENTATION TO MATRON
WHANGAREI HOSPITAL WORK GOLD MEDAL FOR NURSE (From Our Oten Correspondent) WHANGAREI, Monday. Miss A. H. Cookson, for eight years matron of the Whangarei Hospital, left Whangarei to-day to take up her new duties sis matron of the Wellington Hospital. At to-day's meeting of the Whangarei Hospital Board Miss Cookson was presented with a handsome silver tea service jug from board members. Mr. T. Ellis, chairman, in making the presentation, paid a high tribute to the esteem in which she was held. Miss Ethel Swain, from Hamilton, arrives in Whangarei on December 31. Mrs. Donaldson, a member cf the board, said that the matter of building a new children’s ward was most urgent. The present ward was now overcrowded and likely to be more so. The board decided to call tenders for the the work at the next meeting. It was decided to forward a gold medal to Nurse I. McDonald, one of the hospital’s own trainees, who had gained the highest marks in New Zealand midwifery examinations. This is the fourth time the board lias made a similar award to its successful trainees.
