GARDEN FETE

FOR ST. OSWALD’S FUND The fund for St. Oswald's Church j should benefit appreciably as a result j of the very successful garden fete held jat the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. j Somervell. Otrangi Road. Green Lane, *on Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Gordon officially opened the fete, and the various stalls were well patronised. Mrs. Gordon wore a smart frock of gentian blue crepe venise. relieved with ivory white, and a black visca hat. Mrs. XV. A. Somervell was wearing a marocain frock of deep rose, and a black and beige hat of balibuntal. The following were stallholders: — Sweets. Miss Hollingsworth and Miss Year; produce, Mrs. Diggens and Mrs. Slyfield; ice-cream, Mrs. Rome; cakes, Mrs. Jensen, Mrs. Darby and Mrs. Walker; needlework, Mrs. Coombe. Mrs. Nicholas and Mrs. Smith; afternoon tea, Mrs. Somervell. Mrs. Plummer, Mrs. Proude, Miss Healey and Miss B. Hood. A clock croquet competition was run by Mrs. Burgess, and Air. Somervell, jun., was in charge of the tennis. Some delightful music was supplied by Mr. Owen Jensen's orchestra and Airs. Over’s three little girls presented dance items on the lawn. Among those present were:— Mrs. Stanton, who wore a satin frock of cinnamon brown, and a cream coat and hat. ' Mrs. Campbell, in a black crepe alonza frock, and black crinoline hat. Airs. Moyser, wearing a crepe de chine frock of phlox-mauve. Airs. Grant, in a navy blue ensemble, and black hat. Mrs. Aleredith. who was wearing a navy ottoman silk coat and a hat of black bongkok. Aliss Af. Hood, wearing a biscuitcoloured crepe frock and hat to tone. Ailss Windroffe. in a putty jumper suit of trieolptte and a blue hat. Airs. R. AlcLeod, in a marocain frock of moonlight blue, with a white hat. Aliss Wood, japonica rose frock of crepe elise, with a black baku hat. Airs. Godwin, who wore a hennashaded crepe de chine frock and a black hat. Mrs. Hill, in a fawn jersey chenille frock. AT DIXIELAND The Dixieland Cabaret was crowded on Saturday evening, when Air. Harry Neilsun and his band delighted the dancers by introducing a programme of new and vivacious tunes. Among those present were; Miss D. Vaile, wearing a frock of opal blue ma:«ette. SATURDAY’S SPORT AT CLAUDELANDS Ideal weather favoured the Waikato trots on Saturday, and in spite of other attractions the Claudelands course was crowded. The lightest of summer frocks were worn.
