MOUNT WELLINGTON AFFAIRS
Advice was received by the Mount Wellington Road Board from the Mourn Eden Borough Council last evening that the election of members of the Transport Board would be held in the One Tree Hill Road Board office at 7.30 p.n on Alonday. Alessrs. R. and AN'. Fletcher, on behalf of the Westfield Freezing Work?, made application for permission to erect warning-signals at the level-crossing over the Grtat South Road, where their private line enters their property. These signals are to be in lieu of the present arrangement of a man stationed at the crossing with a flag. The chairman and clerk attended a conference of the Railway Department rnd Public Works Department. Th. Public Works officers were of the opinion that any warning device should be supplementary to the existing agre»ment. The board decided to support th* latter proposal. The matter was referred to the Highways Board for approval. I „ A further letter was received fron the Auditor-General, asking if the overpavmeht of fees to the engineer, amounting to £56, had been adjusted. Th*. clerk reported that finality had not been reached. A request was received from the vestry of St. Mathias Anglican Church for the payment in connection with a by-road, giving access to the board? quarry. The sum of £1 per annum was previously verbally agreed upon, and the members of the vestry claimed payment from 1914. On the motion of Air. Woods it was agreed to offer £> in settlement of the claim, and to terminate the agreement forthwith.
